Emma Wharton Love Colourful Abstract Artist UK in her Studio in Bath

Emma Wharton Love is an abstract artist who explores the effect of memory on space and colour.

Working primarily with acrylics on anodised aluminium plates, Emma's creative process is a delicate dance between control and chance. Emma plays with the viscosity of her paints so they flow across the surface at different rates. Applying them generous amounts, she carefully tilts and angles the plate over long periods of time until most of the paint has fallen away. This method gives rise to a mesmerising interplay of colours, ghost shapes and the emergence of unexpected colour harmonies arising from a limited palette. The artworks are then delicately presented within custom-made transparent frames. She invites the viewer to contemplate the interplay between presence and absence in human experience.

Inspired by female abstract expressionists such as Helen Frankenthaler, Emma pays homage to their legacy while infusing the works with her distinct style and approach. She also draws inspiration from three-dimensional artists, most notably Barbara Hepworth, as well as her own multidisciplinary background in design. This cross-pollination of influences fuels her creative journey, enriching her paintings with a unique blend of artistic perspectives.

Emma works from her studio in Bath.
